Hazardous Materials Division

The division of hazardous materials was introduced to be concerned primarily with inventory of facilities that deal with hazardous materials, and gather all the informations that contribute to inventorying its damages and control it in case of accidents, to establishes a data bank for these hazardous materials. It also has a role in awareness by issuing publications and studies about hazardous materials accidents and held internal lectures and awareness lectures to national foundations.

In addition, the division is responsible for the communication with hazmat teams in regions to access to their achievements and needs, exchange experiences and informations related to hazardous materials accidents, appliances, or materials that could contribute in reducing hazardous materials accident or processed it professionally.
 Hazardous materials division has the following duties:

  • Preparing environmental risks studies and researches.
  • Coordinate with hazardous materials team and provide them with the necessary information.
  • Prepare plans to deal with hazardous materials accidents in coordination with the Operation Department.
  • Held Seminars , meetings and participates in committees and seminars related to.
  • Documentation of all information related to hazardous substances.
  • Updating strategic information in coordination with the official and civil committees.
  • Follow up and disseminate brochures about hazardous materials.


 The most important achievements of the Division of Hazardous materials are:

  • Prepare a guidebook to hazardous materials most heavily used in Jordan, this guidebook includes chemicals and physical characteristics of materials, firefighting materials appropriate for these materials in case of combustion, health risks and methods of first aid for injuries resulting in contact or inhalation, as well as how to act an case of spills and leakage, handling and storage.

 

  •  Follow-up work on a directory of pesticides in cooperation with ministry of agriculture, drugs and poisons centre in Jordan university hospital, this guide includes:-
  1. Chemical group classification.
  2. Poisoning symptoms.
  3. First aid procedures in case of pesticide contamination with body parts.
  4. anti-dot B physician guidance and treatments.

 

  • Held Awareness course on how to deal with hazardous materials
  • Preparation lectures for training courses assigned to the Division.
