Today, the Director of Public Security, Major General Dr. AbeidAllah Maaitah, patronized the event held by the Al-Hajjana Unit in the Bayer region in Ma’an Governorate on the occasion of Arbor Day, which comes within the national initiative to plant ten million trees in various regions of the Kingdom.
Major General Al- Maaitah said that the Public Security Directorate seeks to make more efforts aimed at increasing awareness of the importance of preserving the environment in a way that ensures the preservation of the environmental components related to Jordan nature, and enhances its sustainability, to raise the level of society’s responsibility towards the environment, and reduce the environmental pollution in general.
The Director of Public Security stressed the importance of choosing the Bayer Desert this year to organize this event because of that region’s historical importance to public security with the presence of the first police station there and to expand the national initiative to plant trees and bring them to desert areas that rarely receive that attention.
The director stressed the security, legal and supervisory roles played by the Directorate for the Protection of the environment and Nature, through its specialized units such as the Royal department for Environment Protection, which is keen to take all measures to preserve forest and agricultural wealth in all governorates of the Kingdom.
Major General Al- Maaitah also indicated to the major role played by the Civil Defense Directorate in dealing with fires that break out of various causes, which are always accompanied by the implementation of plans, environmental awareness and education programmes, and volunteer work.
The Director of Public Security also witnessed the reopening of the oldest police station in Jordan (Bayer Center) to operate as a police force after its rehabilitation.
It is noteworthy that the Public Security Directorate, through its various formations and units, continues to plant trees in all its sites, protect natural and environmental resources, and enhance the plant wealth in the Kingdom.
