Amman, June 26 (Petra) - Pursuant to Royal directives of His Majesty King Abdullah II, the Chief of the Royal Hashemite Court, Yousef Hassan Al-Issawi, head of the committee for following up implementation of His Majesty's initiatives, today, Wednesday, in the presence of Public Security Director, Major General Dr. AbeidAllah Maaitah, handed over 30 four-wheel drive bikes to the Public Security Directorate.
Public Security Directorate was provided with four-wheel drive bikes to enable the Environment Protection Department and the Tourism Police to carry out their various duties in desert areas, intensify monitoring and law enforcement, especially in forested areas, and maintain the safety of tourist sites and their visitors, according to the highest levels of efficiency and professionalism.
The environmental and tourism sectors enjoy great royal attention, as they have witnessed, since His Majesty assumed his constitutional powers, a series of initiatives and programs to develop them, highlight the various tourist and archaeological sites that Jordan abounds with, and enhance their position regionally and globally.
Al-Issawi indicated, during the handover ceremony, that His Majesty the King is keen to support the environment and tourism sectors, as they play an important role to the national economy, as His Majesty constantly emphasizes the need to advance the reality of ecotourism and encourage domestic tourism, as a group of projects have been implemented, within the context of Royal initiatives, in nature reserves and surrounding areas, in order to achieve sustainable development.
Al-Issawi said that His Majesty, the King directs the implementation of model tourism projects, with high added value, that take into account the advantages of each region, and contribute to providing job opportunities, and supporting and empowering families in local communities, to establish projects that provide them with sources of income, and improve their living conditions.
Al-Issawi stressed the King's keenness and interest in enforcing and applying procedures and measures that would preserve the ecosystem and contribute to achieving environmental security, and the need to enhance partnership between all concerned and specialized institutions, in order to spread environmental awareness and culture. For his part, Major General Al-Maaitah stressed that the delivery of these bikes is an extension of the continuous support of His Majesty King Abdullah II to the Public Security Directorate, ensuring the improvement of the level of performance and services provided to citizens and residents in the Kingdom.
It is noteworthy that the reserves, including the Wadi Rum Reserve and the Ajloun Forest Reserve, constitute distinctive destinations for natural tourism, while the desert areas rich in sand and oases are a destination for adventure tourism and desert car competitions.
The ceremony was attended by the Assistant Director of Public Security for Operations and Training, Brigadier General Anwar Al-Tarawneh, the Director of Planning and International Cooperation, Brigadier General Abdullah Al-Sawaeer, the Director of the Royal Department for Environment Protection, Brigadier General Tamby Hamkari, and the Director of the Tourism Police Department, Brigadier General Imad Shoman.
