- In the year (1956-1978) ambulance services were provided by primitive and traditional methods by people not qualified in this field (first aid).
- In 1979, the Directorate of Ambulance and Emergency was established under the Directorate of Civil Defense.
- In 1995, the Directorate of Ambulance and Emergency was established and a specialized department called the Ambulance Department was created to organize the matters of the ambulance profession, training and rehabilitation for paramedics through holding workshops and courses in ambulance
- In 2006, the Council of Ministers approved the first paramedic practice system No. (47) according to the classification (initial, foundational, intermediate, advanced, specialized) issued under the provisions of the Public Health Law No. (54) of 2006. Amendments have been made to this regulation for the years (2012, 2018).
- On 11/12/2006, the Psychosocial Support Division was established under the directives of His Majesty the Supreme Commander King Abdullah II Bin Al Hussein and Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah following the terrorist incident and hotel bombings that Amman was subjected to on 9/11/2005 to be a specialized department for psychosocial support It is concerned with providing the necessary assistance to civil defense personnel, victims and their families.
- The name of the Department of Ambulance and Humanitarian Support was adopted instead of the Department of Ambulance on 04/21/2121 to include all public security personal with all its components with the services of the Psychological Support Division.
