The department was formed pursuant to the directives of His Majesty the late King Hussein Bin Talal (may God rest his soul) after the end of the June War of 1967 to confront the humanitarian problem represented by the displacement of large numbers of Palestinian citizens to the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan. It was administratively followed to the Balqa Governorate Police.
On 3/8/1972, the Bridge Security divisions Command was established based on the proposal of the Executive Office for the Occupied Territories Affairs, this command was followed to the Assistant Chief of Staff for Operations in the Headquarters of the Armed Forces / Arab Army, and a decision was issued by the Prime Minister that all agencies operating on bridges to be followed to the new established command.
On 3/15/1974, the Bridge divisions Command was separated from the Armed Forces and followed to the Public Security Directorate, and it became the Bridge Security divisions Command and followed the General Department of the Administrative Police.
On 1/1/1976, this department was separated from the General Department of the Administrative Police and followed with the Assistant Director of Public Security for the Judicial Police.
On 15 / 6 / 2003 , the name of the Bridge Security divisions Department was changed to become (Bridge Security Department).
The duties of the Bridges Security Department:
facilitating and documenting the movement of all arrivals and departures through the King Hussein Bridge to and from the territories of the Palestine in coordination with other security agencies.
providing all administrative services to all passengers , and providing the necessary facilities and services for diplomats, senior visitors, important figures, businessmen, military and civil delegations, and cars.
Providing First aid and assistance to people with special needs and taking the necessary security measures for tourist groups in coordination with The royal Department for environment and tourism protection.
providing Tourism and Security Services
supervising the transportation of goods between the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan and the Palestinian Authority, and secure the dispatch of humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people.
