The General Secretariat of the Police Sports union was established on February 25, 1976, where it was previously located in the metropolitan Police Directorate.
On May 5, 1990, the General Secretariat of the Police Sports union was transferred to the Royal Police Academy.
On 16/1/2008, Royal directives were issued to form the General Directorate of the Gendarmerie Forces.
On November 30, 2016, a stadium security unit was established in the gendarmerie command and followed to their training directorate.
On 3/1/2017, the stadium security unit was separated from the Training Directorate and followed to the Operations Directorate in the gendarmerie.
On 2/8/2018, the stadium security unit was separated from the Operations Directorate and followed directly with the assistant operations officer in the gendarmerie forces.
On December 15, 2019, His Majesty King Abdullah II, Ibn Al Hussein, instructed the Prime Minister to immediately proceed with the merger of the General Directorate of Gendarmerie Forces and the General Directorate of Civil Defense with the Directorate of Public Security, where the organizational structures of all the new public security units were prepared to match the merger decision, Including the creation of the Sports Security Directorate.
On March 20, 2020, the Directorate of Sports Security was formed as a main unit to which the General Secretariat of the Police Sports union and the Stadium Security Unit followed to the organizational structure, after it was separated from the gendarmerie, it is directly followed with the assistant for operations and training and is placed within the distribution list (D).
The directorate is followed a participatory technical relationship with the Ministry of Youth, the Jordanian sports federations, the Jordanian Olympic Committee, and a number of partners related to sports.
